ORGANISED PLAY
The first section of this guide will look at Organised Play, which is a term used to describe Adeptus Titanicus events or games, often with a more competitive focus. These games can be anything from a single battle between friends at your local gaming club to hundreds of games fought at tournaments across the world, where each player battles to be crowned the best general.
Organised Play events build upon the Matched Play rules provided in the Adeptus Titanicus rulebook but present a number of changes. The Organised Play rules are intended to be the baseline rules set for Adeptus Titanicus tournaments, meaning all players with this guide are following the same rules.
The rules for Organised Play are presented in two sections: Building a Battlegroup, and Matched Play Objectives and Deployment Maps. Both are intended to be used alongside each other to create a level playing field for all players at an event. All events should include an Event Pack, written by the Tournament Organiser in the weeks/months preceding the event. An Event Pack should outline the rules of the event for all players participating in the event, detailing any requirements and scoring systems, and anything else a player might need. If using the Adeptus Titanicus Matched Play Guide, the Event Pack should point players towards this book for the rules.
In conventional battles, the presence of a lone Titan – even a Scout class such as a Warhound – can be sufficient to guarantee victory. However, when Titans go to war en masse, they are formed into ad hoc groups, operating together under the command of their most senior Princeps for the duration of a campaign.
When playing Adeptus Titanicus, all of the units (i.e., individual Titans and Knight Banners) under a player’s command are referred to as their ‘battlegroup’. This is a loosely defined term which encompasses maniples of Titans, individual Titans acting as reinforcements, and any attached support units, such as Banners of Knights from allied Houses.
In Open Play, assembling a battlegroup is as simple as deciding which miniatures from your collection you wish to use, taking a Command Terminal for each one and getting the battle started. In Matched Play and Narrative Play, the rules for assembling a battlegroup are subject to a few restrictions. Each unit has a points cost, which is made up of the unit’s base cost plus the cost of any weapons and upgrades it takes. The total points cost of all of a battlegroup’s units is referred to as the battlegroup’s ‘Battle Rating’. Battlegroups are built to a Battle Rating that is agreed upon by all players.
Players should record the details of their battlegroups on a battlegroup roster, which could be a piece of paper, an online document or something similar. A battlegroup roster should include the following details:
- Battlegroup Type, i.e., if the battlegroup is a Legio battlegroup or a Household battlegroup (as follows).
- Details of every unit within the battlegroup, including their points cost, weapons, upgrades, and any maniple or Lance they are part of.
- The Legio of any Titan within the battlegroup. If relevant, the Household of all Knight Banners should also be recorded.
- The battlegroup allegiance.
- The total Battle Rating of the battlegroup.
- The battlegroup Leader – this must be a nominated Princeps Senioris in a Legio battlegroup or the Seneschal in a Knight Household battlegroup.
BUILDING A BATTLEGROUP
Nearly every game of Adeptus Titanicus requires players to assemble a battlegroup to an agreed upon ‘Battle Rating’ (the total points value of the battlegroup), building their force from their collection and in accordance with the restrictions and requirements detailed in the following section. Additionally, the Event Pack should include any additional restrictions or rules the Tournament Organiser wishes to place on assembling a battlegroup.
Before every event, each player should detail their battlegroup on a battlegroup roster. A copy of the battlegroup roster should be handed in to the Tournament Organiser at the start of each event and each player should retain a copy of their battlegroup for themselves for the duration of the event.
A battlegroup roster should include the following things:
- Battlegroup Type, i.e., if the battlegroup is a Legio battlegroup or a Household battlegroup (as follows).
- Details of every unit within the battlegroup, including their points cost, weapons, upgrades, and any maniple or Lance they are part of.
- The Legio of any Titan within the battlegroup. If relevant, the Household of all Knight Banners should also be recorded.
- The battlegroup allegiance.
- The total Battle Rating of the battlegroup.
- The battlegroup Leader – this must be a nominated Princeps Senioris in a Titan Legio battlegroup or the Seneschal in a Knight Household battlegroup.
- The battlegroup’s Stratagem Hand (see page 10).
Auxiliary Titans and Auxiliary Knight Banners
When building a Legio battlegroup or Household battlegroup, certain Titans are classified as Auxiliary Titans and certain Knight Banners are classified as Auxiliary Knight Banners. These represent the rarer patterns of Titans and Knights during the Horus Heresy. As such, both Legio and Household battlegroups have restrictions on the number of each you can take within your battlegroup during Matched Play.
Below is a list of current Auxiliary Titans and Auxiliary Knight Banners – further such units may be explored in future supplements and will be noted as either Auxiliary Titan or Auxiliary Knight Banners on their Command Terminal where appropriate:
| Support Titans | Auxiliary Knight Banners |
|---|---|
| Dire Wolf Heavy Scout Titan | Acastus Knight Banners |
| Warbringer Nemesis Titan | Acastus Knight Asterius Banners |
| Warmaster Heavy Battle Titan | |
| Warmaster Iconoclast Heavy Battle Titan |
In general, the following rules and restrictions apply when building a battlegroup and writing a battlegroup roster for Organised Play:
Battlegroup Type
A battlegroup can be either a Legio battlegroup or a Household battlegroup.
Legio Battlegroup
A Legio battlegroup represents a battlegroup where the majority of its strength is drawn from the Collegia Titanica. A Legio battlegroup has the following rules:
- A Legio battlegroup must contain at least one maniple, made up of three to five Titans.
- A Legio battlegroup can have multiple maniples; each maniple will have its own Princeps Seniores. Each Princeps Seniores’ Personal Trait can only be taken once per battlegroup.
- A Legio battlegroup can take Titans and Household Support Banners as Reinforcements.
- Reinforcements are any Titans or Knight Banners within a Legio battlegroup that are not part of a maniple.
A Legio battlegroup can take any number of Reinforcements, so long as they adhere to the following restrictions:
- A Legio battlegroup can include a maximum of two Knight Banners as Reinforcements for each Titan maniple in the battlegroup. One of these Knight Banners per Titan maniple can be an Auxiliary Knight Banner.
- A Legio battlegroup can include any number of Titans as Reinforcements. A maximum of one of these Titans per maniple in a battlegroup may be an Auxiliary Titan.
It should be noted that Auxiliary Titans, Knight Banners and Auxiliary Knight Banners selected as part of a maniple are not classed as Reinforcements and, therefore, are not included when calculating the maximum number of Knight Banners and Auxiliary units allowed per maniple.
Household Battlegroup
If you are using a Knight Household Force as per the rules presented in the Adeptus Titanicus: Doom of Molech supplement, that Household Force is a Household battlegroup. Household battlegroups have the following exceptions:
- A Household battlegroup must include at least one Lance, which must contain either a Seneschal or a High King.
- All Knights within a Lance in a Household battlegroup must be drawn from the same Household.
- No Knight Banner in a Lance, except for the Seneschal’s Banner, can be an Auxiliary Knight Banner.
- A Household battlegroup can include Titans and Knight Banners as Reinforcements. Titans included as Reinforcements do not follow Titan Legion rules.
Reinforcements are any Knight Banners within a Household battlegroup that are not part of a Lance and any Titan in the battlegroup. Household battlegroups face the following restrictions when using Reinforcements:
- A Household battlegroup can include a maximum of one Titan as Reinforcements for each Lance in the battlegroup. A maximum of one of these Titans can be an Auxiliary Titan.
- A Household battlegroup can include a single Auxiliary Banner of each type as Reinforcements for each Lance in the battlegroup.
BATTLEGROUP BATTLE RATING
In Organised Play, each battlegroup is built to a points limit, referred to as a Battle Rating, which is agreed upon between players before the battle or set by a Tournament Organiser before the event. The Battle Rating used can be chosen for any number of reasons but it should be noted that games fought between battlegroups with larger Battle Ratings take more time to complete. In general, games of Adeptus Titanicus fit into three broad categories:
| Battle Level | Battle Rating | Stratagem Points | Approximate Length | Battlefield Size |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Skirmish | <1,250 | 2 | 1½-2 hours | 4'x4' |
| Confrontation | 1,250-1,750 | 3 | 2-2½ hours | 4'x4' |
| Epic Clash | >1,750 | 4 | 2½-3 hours | 4'x4' to 6'x4' |
Unlike the Matched Play rules presented in the Adeptus Titanicus rulebook, there is no Underdog Margin – there is no advantage in Organised Play for not using all of your Battle Rating. The total Battle Rating of the force is calculated by adding together the point values of all units within a battlegroup, which includes the cost of each Titan and Knight Banner and any upgrades they are given. Each Battle Level gives a base number of Stratagem points to both players, as seen in the table above. Additional Stratagem points can be gained by a player through a number of different means.
TITAN LEGION RULES
In Adeptus Titanicus, Titans can be drawn from a specific Titan Legion, which applies a set of Titan Legion rules that give those Titans additional options and benefits.
For each Titan in a Legio battlegroup, the player must clearly declare on their battlegroup roster which Titan Legion the Titan is drawn from. This may be any Titan Legion published in an Adeptus Titanicus supplement, including a custom Crusade Legion created using the rules presented in Adeptus Titanicus: Defence of Ryza.
In a Legio battlegroup, all Titans within a Titan maniple must be drawn from the same Titan Legion. Different maniples in the same battlegroup can be drawn from different Titan Legions.
Reinforcement Titans may be drawn from the same Legio as a maniple, a different Legio, or no Legio. Each Reinforcement Titan may be drawn from a different Titan Legion. The number of sets of Titan Legion rules that are used within a battlegroup affects the number of bonus Stratagem points the opposing player gains (see page 10).
Note that players may paint their miniatures in a different scheme to the ‘historical’ scheme of the Titan Legion their Titans are drawn from – e.g., they may paint their models as their own homebrew Legio but use the rules for Legio Astorum. This is allowed so long as it is made clear to their opponent before the game begins which Titans are drawn from which Titan Legion. All Titans painted in the same colour scheme must use the same Titan Legion rules.
KNIGHT HOUSEHOLD RULES
In Adeptus Titanicus, Knight Banners can be drawn from a specific Knight Household which offers a set of Household-specific Knightly Qualities which the Seneschal can take. This may be any Knight Household published in an Adeptus Titanicus supplement.
For each Knight Banner in a Household battlegroup, the player must clearly declare on their battlegroup roster which Knight Household the Knight Banner is drawn from. This may be any Knight Household published in an Adeptus Titanicus supplement. In a Household battlegroup, all Knights within a Lance must be drawn from the same Household and all Lances must be drawn from the same Household.
Reinforcement Knight Banners are always Freeblades unless they are Auxiliary Knight Banners. Reinforcement Auxiliary Banners can either be Freeblades or be drawn from the same Knight Household as those of a Lance within the battlegroup. All Knights within an Auxiliary Knight Banner that are drawn from a Household must be equipped in the same way. Auxiliary Banners drawn from a Household may benefit from a Battle Standard carried by a Knight Banner drawn from the same Household.
BATTLEGROUP ALLEGIANCE
All battlegroups must declare an allegiance, which must be clearly displayed on their battlegroup roster, choosing from one of the allegiances available to their battlegroup type – allegiances can be found on pages 38-45. The declared allegiance of a battlegroup determines which Stratagems a battlegroup has access to and can impose further restrictions and special rules upon the battlegroup.
Regardless of allegiance, all battlegroups can purchase Stratagems available to any player (i.e., those that do not have a specific player type e.g., Thermal Mines) along with Battlefield Assets.
Battlegroup Leader
Certain objectives reference a battlegroup leader. When writing a battlegroup roster, a player must clearly denote the battlegroup leader on their roster. The exact nature of the battlegroup leader is decided by the battlegroup type:
- In a Legio battlegroup, the Leader must be a Princeps Seniores. If the battlegroup contains more than one Princeps Seniores then the controlling player may choose which one is their battlegroup leader.
- In a Household battlegroup, the Seneschal or High King is always the battlegroup leader.
- Personal Traits for Princeps Seniores, Seneschal and High Kings are chosen by the player when building the battlegroup – they must be noted down on the battlegroup roster. Each Personal Trait can only be selected once per battlegroup.
Stratagem Hand
In Organised Play, Stratagems are handled in a different way to other styles of play. In this case, Stratagems are chosen when building your battlegroup and the chosen Stratagems remain the same over an entire event. This selection of Stratagems is known as the Stratagem Hand.
To create a Stratagem Hand, each player selects a number of Stratagems depending on the Battle Level of the game: 4 for Skirmish, 6 for Confrontation and 8 for Epic Clash. A player can select any Stratagems from those available to them, determined by their Legio or Household, allegiance, etc., following all normal restrictions (e.g., only one copy of each Stratagem is allowed unless noted otherwise). If a Stratagem is allowed to be purchased multiple times, each separate purchase counts towards the total number of Stratagems allowed.
All Stratagems selected as part of the Stratagem Hand must be clearly noted down on the battlegroup roster. It is common for a player to show their opponent their roster before a battle to ensure fairness; as such, Stratagems will be known by the opponent in Matched Play.
Stratagem Points
The number of Stratagem points available to each battlegroup can change from game to game, determined by both the Battle Level and the number of sets of Titan Legion rules the opposing battlegroup is using. As such, the number of Stratagem points is not recorded on the Battlefield Roster.
The number of Stratagem points available to each player during a game is determined at the start of the battle. To do this, determine how many sets of Titan Legion rules each player is using. For each set of Titan rules in use by a battlegroup, the opposing player gains 2 additional Stratagem points. Any extra Stratagem points are added to the base number of Stratagem points each player receives, determined by the Battle Level.
For example, Player 1 is using a Legio Audax maniple reinforced with one Legio Mortis Warlord Titan. Player 2 is using a Legio Gryphonicus maniple reinforced with two Legio Gryphonicus Warhounds. As Player 1 is using two sets of Titan Legion rules and Player 2 is using one set of Titan Legion rules, Player 1 would gain an extra 2 Stratagem points while Player 2 would gain an extra 4 Stratagem points. If the Battle Level of this battle was Confrontation, then Player 1 would have 5 Stratagem points and Player 2 would have 7 Stratagem points.
Some rules, such as a Princeps Seniores’ Personal Trait may give a player additional Stratagem points. Once calculated, the total number of Stratagem points each player has is referred to as their Stratagem Pool.
Points within the Stratagem Pool can be spent during the course of each battle on Stratagems held within the player’s Stratagem Hand. During a battle, a player can play a Stratagem by declaring the Stratagem they are using, and spending points from their Stratagem Pool equal to the cost of the Stratagem. Reduce the Stratagem Pool by the appropriate amount of points and then resolve the effects of the Stratagem. That Stratagem is then discarded from the player’s Hand, unless stated otherwise.
For example, a player holds Thermal Mines, Vox Blackout, and Orbital Bombardment in their Stratagem Hand and has 3 Stratagem points remaining in their Stratagem Pool. The player plays Thermal Mines, reducing their Stratagem Pool by 2 and resolving the effect of the Thermal Mines. The player now has 1 Stratagem point left and Vox Blackout and Orbital Bombardment still in their Hand.
A player’s Stratagem Hand and Stratagem Pool are refreshed at the start of each battle.
MATCHED PLAY OBJECTIVES AND DEPLOYMENT MAPS
Matched Play games use their own set of objectives and Deployment Maps during battles that are different to those presented as part of the Meeting Engagement rules in the Adeptus Titanicus rulebook. The intention behind this change is to create a competitive system that rewards shrewd tactics and player skill while retaining the asymmetric objective system of Adeptus Titanicus.
These rules are designed for both one-off games and events, meaning they can be used regardless of setting. Before each game players should agree on a Battle Rating, which will decide the number of points each player has to build their battlegroup and how many base Stratagem points each player has access to; at an event the Battle Rating will most likely have been predetermined. Players should build their battlegroups according to the rules presented previously in this book.
Once players have determined a Battle Rating and assembled their battlegroup, they must determine a Deployment Map for the battle and both players must choose their objectives. To do this, go through the following pre-battle sequence:
- Determine Deployment Maps
- Determine objectives
- Deploy battlegroups
DETERMINING DEPLOYMENT MAPS
Before the battle a Deployment Map needs to be determined. To choose a Deployment Map, both players roll off, with the winner choosing who has control of the battlefield. The player who is in control of the battlefield then chooses one of the two D6 results from the roll-off and compares it against the table that follows to determine a Deployment Map.
For example, if a 2 and a 5 were rolled during the roll-off, the player who has control of the battlefield can choose either Fortified Position or Confrontation.
For events, it is recommended that a Deployment Map is chosen for each round and applied to all games played that round (for example, Round 2 might be Line of Battle).
| D6 | RESULT |
|---|---|
| 1 | Line of Battle |
| 2 | Fortified Position |
| 3 | Chance Engagement |
| 4 | Staggered Front |
| 5 | Confrontation |
| 6 | Strengthened Flank |
Once a Deployment Map has been determined, the player with control of the battlefield chooses one of the two shaded deployment zones as their own and the opposing player gains the opposite deployment zone. In some cases, the shaded deployment zones are split into two or more sections; all sections shaded in the same colours are part of the same deployment zone and units may be deployed in any and all sections.
If a Deployment Map was chosen by a Tournament Organiser then players should roll off now, with the winner determining who has control of the battlefield.
BATTLEFIELD EDGE
Certain objectives mention a battlefield edge. Each Deployment Map highlights the relevant battlefield edges that this references; the player who owns that battlefield edge is the player whose deployment zone touches it.
Deployment Maps
Line of Battle
The movement of a battlegroup is rarely a subtle affair, for few things can conceal the thunderous steps of the god-engines. In the war between once-brothers, it was oft the case that both Loyalist and Traitor Titans met on equal terms; who survived depended solely on the Princeps’ skill.

Fortified Position
Conflict between the war machines of the Mechanicum were not quick affairs, often becoming mired in wars of attrition between battlegroups. When both sides refused to back down or retreat, they would reinforce their position, ensuring their forces had a safe haven to sally forth from or retreat to when the rigours of battle wore them down.

Chance Engagement
During war, the flow of information is rarely foolproof and, more often than not, intel can fail to reach those in dire need of it. Such issues were compounded during the Horus Heresy, for one never truly knew who was friend and who was foe, a question often answered by an assault from an unexpected quarter.

Staggered Front
In the maelstrom of war, battlelines are rarely rigid for the constant clash of armies often sees them redrawn, as ground is won by bold charges in one place and ceded in the face of the foe’s advance in others. The most talented commanders can perceive the flow of battle with ease, identifying the weak point in the enemy line and using such insight to their advantage.

Confrontation
Even the most rigorous of plans can fall apart in the heat of battle, for the foe rarely deigns to stick to the battleplans of their opponent. In the absence of intricate tactics, it falls to the opposing forces to fight on even terms, relying on naught but courage and brute strength to win them the day.

Strengthened Flank
Few wars are won by strength alone, for shrewd tactics and clever manoeuvring have seen many commanders win the day in the face of dire odds. A common tactic in the arsenal of any commander is deception, moving their forces to leave an apparent weak point for the foe to exploit. Once the enemy has committed, the commander will unleash their own forces, hoping to pick apart their foe from an unexpected angle.

Matched Play Objectives
The Meeting Engagement objectives presented in the Adeptus Titanicus rulebook provide one way to play Adeptus Titanicus. This section presents new Matched Play objectives that expand upon the ideas given there. If in use, then only these Primary and Secondary Objectives are used and the ones in the rulebook are ignored.
Game Length
Matched Play battles last for five rounds. At the end of the fifth round the battle ends, unless a special rule dictates the battle ends in a different round. When the battle ends, players score their objectives to determine the total number of Victory points each side has. The player who has scored the most Victory points is victorious.
Determining Objectives
In Matched Play, objectives are separated into two categories, Primary and Secondary, each of which offers a set number of Victory points and are independent of one another. At the start of each game, each player must select their objectives. To do this, each player generates two Primary Objectives and two Secondary Objectives by rolling two D10 for Primary Objectives and two D6 for Secondary Objectives, re-rolling any duplicates, and looking up the results on the table on page 17 to see which objectives are available to the battlegroup. Each player then secretly chooses one Primary Objective and one Secondary Objective from those available.
Scoring Objectives
Primary Objectives represent the main objective of a battlegroup and hold more value than Secondary Objectives. To this end, all Primary Objectives are worth a maximum of 25 Victory points (VPs) while all Secondary Objectives are worth a maximum of 15 VPs.
In addition to Primary and Secondary Objectives, players may be able to purchase Tertiary Objectives, or be given one by a Princeps Seniores’ Personal Trait. No battlegroup may have more than one Tertiary Objective, regardless of the source. Most Tertiary Objectives come from Stratagems and as such must be part of the player’s Stratagem Hand, chosen when building a battlegroup and clearly noted down on their battlegroup roster.
For the purpose of calculating VPs, Tertiary Objectives are classified as additional Secondary Objectives. Tertiary Objectives can reward a maximum of 5 VPs even if they would normally award more. In addition, Tertiary Objectives cannot allow a player to score more than 15 VPs for Secondary Objectives – in other words, if a player scores 5 VPs for a Tertiary Objective and 15 VPs for a Secondary Objective, they would only score 15 VPs (plus any points for the Primary Objective). Essentially, they offer an additional way to score your Secondary Objective rather than extra points for your battlegroup to gain.
To score a Tertiary Objective given by a Stratagem, players must spend the required amount of Stratagem points, equal to the cost of the Stratagem, in their Stratagem Pool, depending on the objective’s cost, when scoring the objective. If a Tertiary Objective is scored at the end of the battle, a player must have enough Stratagem points remaining in their Stratagem Pool to claim it. If they do not have the required number of Stratagem points then the objective cannot be scored and no VPs are awarded for it.
Objectives are the only way to gain Victory points in Matched Play.
!!! note "Objective Markers" Many objectives call for the placement of one or more objective markers. An objective marker is provided on the Adeptus Titanicus accessories sprue. However, players may wish to create their own objective markers in order to theme them to their Legio or simply to add variety. To represent this, objective markers should be mounted upon a 32mm base in order to keep a consistent size for all players. Beyond these restrictions, players have free rein as to the nature of their markers. Note that unless otherwise stated, objective markers do not block movement or line of sight, regardless of their appearance.
Objectives Tables
Players generate their Primary and Secondary Objectives from the tables below, rolling two D10 for Primary Objectives and two D6 for Secondary Objectives, re-rolling duplicates. Players then choose one of the two Primary and one of the two Secondary Objectives available to them, as determined by the rolls. Alternative methods for choosing objectives are presented later in this supplement.
It should be noted that some objectives have the same names as the Meeting Engagement objectives presented in the Adeptus Titanicus rulebook. However, all objectives have been changed to fit the Matched Play rules presented here and are markedly different; these versions presented here take precedence over those in the rulebook when playing Matched Play games.
After determining the objectives available to them, each player secretly chooses which of these available Primary and Secondary Objectives they wish to attempt – the others are discarded. Once both players have selected their objectives, they reveal their Primary and Secondary Objectives.
Primary Objectives
| D10 | Primary Objectives |
|---|---|
| 1 | Retrieval |
| 2 | Secure and Hold |
| 3 | Vital Cargo |
| 4 | Hold the Line |
| 5 | Push Forwards |
| 6 | Salt the Earth |
| 7 | Seize the Quadrant |
| 8 | Honour Thy Forebears |
| 9 | Asset Protection |
| 10 | Defend and Extract |
Secondary Objectives
| D6 | Secondary Objectives |
|---|---|
| 1 | Stand Tall |
| 2 | Deny Them |
| 3 | Glory and Honour |
| 4 | Engage and Destroy |
| 5 | Priority Assignment |
| 6 | A Matter of Honour |
Some objectives call for the placement of one or more objective markers. If this is the case, players deploy any and all objective markers before any unit is deployed but after objectives have been revealed, starting with the player who has control of the battlefield.
It is possible for both players to have the same objective. If this is the case, and the objective calls for an objective marker to be placed, both players place their own objective markers as described in the rules for the relevant objective, starting with the player who has control of the battlefield, making sure all objectives are at least 1" away from another objective. Players cannot use the opposing player’s objective markers to gain Victory Points even if both players have the same Primary or Secondary Objectives (i.e., if both players have the Retrieval Primary Objective, they can only retrieve their objective, not the objective marker placed by the opposing player).
Knight Household Objective Table
Some of the objectives in the previous tables are unsuited for Household battlegroups. As such, Household battlegroups use a modified Objective table to determine their objectives, as shown below:
Household Battlegroup Mission Objectives
| D10 | Primary Objectives |
|---|---|
| 1 | Retrieval |
| 2 | Secure and Hold |
| 3 | Breakthrough |
| 4 | Hold the Line |
| 5 | Push Forwards |
| 6 | Salt the Earth |
| 7 | Seize the Quadrant |
| 8 | Honour Thy Forebears |
| 9 | Asset Protection |
| 10 | Defend and Extract |
Secondary Objectives
| D6 | Secondary Objectives |
|---|---|
| 1 | Stand Tall |
| 2 | Legacy of the Household |
| 3 | Glory and Honour |
| 4 | Engage and Destroy |
| 5 | Honour Duel |
| 6 | A Matter of Honour |
Deploy Battlegroups
Once a Deployment Map has been chosen and players have decided upon their objectives, players will deploy their battlegroups. Unless stated otherwise, players deploy their battlegroups as described below:
Starting with the player who has control of the battlefield, players alternate setting up a unit (be that a Titan or Knight Banner) or squadron within their deployment zone. If one player deploys their final unit, their opponent deploys their remaining units. In the Strategy phase of the first round, the player who finished deploying their units first rolls a D10 when rolling off to see who is the First Player, while their opponent rolls a D6 instead. Units that are not deployed as normal (e.g., Titans that are part of the Canis maniple) count as deployed for the purpose of determining who has deployed first, however they must be deployed before resolving any special rule that occurs after players have deployed their battlegroups (e.g., when choosing units as a part of objectives).
Secretly Choose
Some objectives state you must choose one or more Titans or Knight Banners as part of that objective. In some cases the objective states you must secretly choose. If an objective does not explicitly state that you must secretly choose then you must announce your choices to your opponent before the first round begins. If the objective says to secretly choose, then you must write down your choices to ensure you remember them and so you can reveal them to your opponent at the relevant time.
Primary Objectives
Retrieval
“The crew of the Defiant Martyr sit within those ruins waiting for what might seem like inevitable death. We cannot abide by that outcome. Engines, engage locomotives—we go to war!”
Princeps Retiford, He Who Strides, Legio Defensor
If this objective is chosen, the player with this objective places an objective marker anywhere along the horizontal central line of the battlefield. A friendly model that is within 1" of the objective marker when activated in the Combat phase can retrieve the objective—this counts as their activation. Remove the marker from the battlefield. If a Knight Banner retrieves the objective, the model closest to the objective is carrying it—if two or more models from the retrieving unit are within equal distance of the objective, the controlling player may choose which model is carrying it. If the model carrying the objective is destroyed, place the objective marker where the centre of the model’s base was, or the controlling player deploys the marker touching the Titan’s base if the model is still on the table (e.g., due to a Silenced result).
In the End phase of any round, a model carrying the objective marker that is within 1" of its battlefield edge can recover the objective—remove that model from the battlefield. If a Knight Banner is carrying the objective, the entire Banner is removed so long as the Knight carrying the objective is within 1" of their battlefield edge. That unit does not count as destroyed but plays no further part in the battle.
Scoring Victory Points: At the end of the battle, the player with this objective scores 25 VPs if the objective marker has been recovered, 15 VPs if the objective marker is being carried by a friendly unit but is still on the battlefield, or 5 VPs if the objective is not being carried by a friendly unit but no enemy units are within 12" of the objective marker.
Secure and Hold
“Cut through until you reach the heart of their defences. Deny them their strongholds and watch them crumble beneath our might.”
Princeps Gueniver, Blade of the Warmaster, Legio Krytos
If this objective is chosen, the player with this objective places three objective markers: one at least 12" from their own battlefield edge, one no more than 12" from their opponent’s battlefield edge and one within the centre of the battlefield (or within 1" if this is not possible).
At the end of the battle, each player calculates the total Scale of their units within 6" of each objective marker to determine which player controls each objective. Units which have not been destroyed but are Structurally Compromised, or in the case of a Household Support unit have lost more than half of their models, count as half their Scale (rounding down) when calculating the total Scale. A player controls an objective if the total Scale of their units within 6" of an objective marker is greater than the total Scale of their opponent’s units within 6" of the objective.
Scoring Victory Points: At the end of the battle, the player with this objective scores 5 VPs if they control one objective marker, 15 VPs if they control two objective markers or 25 VPs if they control all three objective markers.
Vital Cargo
“Ensure the Paragondra breaks through. Only their survival matters.”
Princeps Tald, Lux Crescente, Legio Solaria
If this objective is chosen, then after both players have finished deploying, the player with this objective must secretly choose one of their Titans that is on the battlefield—this is the Titan that is carrying the cargo. Make a note of which Titan is carrying the cargo. In the End phase, a Titan carrying the cargo that is within 1" of their opponent’s battlefield edge can deliver the cargo—remove that unit from the battlefield. That unit does not count as destroyed but plays no further part in the battle.
If the Titan carrying the cargo is destroyed, place an objective marker, representing the cargo, where the centre of the Titan’s base was, or deployed by the controlling player touching the Titan’s base if the model is still on the table (e.g., due to a Silenced result). A friendly Titan within 1" of the marker when they are activated during the Movement phase or Combat phase can pick up the cargo—this counts as their activation for that phase. When the cargo is picked up, the marker is removed from the battlefield and that Titan is now carrying the cargo.
Scoring Victory Points: At the end of the battle, the player with this objective scores 25 VPs if the cargo has been delivered, 15 VPs if the cargo is being carried by a friendly Titan but is still on the battlefield or 5 VPs if the cargo is not being carried by a friendly Titan but no enemy units are within 8" of it.
Hold the Line
“Those traitorous curs seek the death of all in this city. We are the only thing standing in their way. Failure is not an option.”
Princeps Yandor, Sacrificium Honore, Legio Atarus
Scoring Victory Points: If this objective is chosen, then at the end of the battle the player with this objective scores 5 VPs if there are no enemy units within 12" of their battlefield edge, 15 VPs if there are no enemy units within 18" of their battlefield edge or 25 VPs if there are no enemy units within 24" of their battlefield edge.
Push Forwards
“Today the pack hunts! Break through their line and tear at their flanks! Teach them the folly of underestimating us!”
Princeps Kordaxal, Snarling Maw, Legio Audax
Scoring Victory Points: If this objective is chosen, then at the end of the battle the player with this objective scores 5 VPs if at least one friendly unit is within 24" of the opposing player’s battlefield edge, 15 VPs if at least one friendly unit is within 15" of the opposing player’s battlefield edge or 25 VPs if at least one friendly unit is within 8" of the opposing player’s battlefield edge.
If, at the end of the battle, the player with this objective has at least one enemy Titan within 15" of their battlefield edge, the highest number of VPs they can score is 15, even if they have one of their own units within 8" of the opposing player’s battlefield edge.
Salt the Earth
“It seems they hold some sentiment for this place. What a shame it would be if something terrible happened to it.”
Princeps Xultora, Blood of Incaladion, Legio Fureans
If this objective is chosen, the opposing player places an objective marker anywhere in their deployment zone at least 10" from any battlefield edge. During the End phase of any round, if a unit controlled by the player with this objective is within 1" of the marker the unit may destroy the objective – remove the marker from the battlefield.
Scoring Victory Points: At the end of the battle, the player with this objective scores 25 VPs if the objective was destroyed in round one, two or three, 15 VPs if it was destroyed in round four, or 5 VPs if it was destroyed in round five onwards.
Seize the Quadrant
“We cannot allow them to gain a foothold. Secure all quadrants and be alert for enemy movement.”
Princeps Martusterum, Celeri Assertor, Legio Astorum
If this objective is chosen, then at the end of the battle divide the battlefield into four 2'x2' sections and determine the total Scale of each player’s units in each quarter. Units which have not been destroyed but are Structurally Compromised, or in the case of Household Support units have lost more than half of their models, count as half their Scale (rounding down) when calculating the total Scale. The player with the highest total Scale in a quadrant controls that quadrant. If the total Scale of both players is equal, neither player controls the quadrant. Each unit can only be counted once when scoring VPs – if a unit is within multiple quadrants, the controlling player chooses which Quadrant it counts as within for the purpose of scoring; it is ignored for the remaining quadrants.
If playing on a battlefield larger than 4'x4', then it should be divided into four quadrants of equal size, each including a single battlefield corner.
Scoring Victory Points: At the end of the battle, the player with this objective scores 5 VPs if they control one quadrant, 15 VPs if they control two quadrants and 25 VPs if they control three or more quadrants.
Honour Thy Forebears
“Our Legio is dead, destroyed by the machinations of cowards. We may be the last of our proud legacy. Do not fall before honour is satisfied.”
Princeps Alvar, Eternal Regret, Legio Fortidus
If this objective is chosen, then after both players have finished deploying, the player with this objective must choose one of their Titans on the battlefield to carry their Legio’s Honour Banner. Place a marker on that Titan’s base or Command Terminal to signify this. If the Titan carrying the Honour Banner is destroyed, place an objective marker where the centre of that Titan’s base was, or deployed by the controlling player touching the Titan’s base if the model is still on the table (e.g., due to a Silenced result). A friendly Titan can pick up the Honour Banner if they are within 1" of the marker when they activate during the Movement phase or Combat phase – this counts as their activation for that phase.
If using a Household battlegroup, the player with this objective chooses a Knight Banner instead. When the final Knight in the designated Banner is destroyed, place an objective marker where its base was. Another friendly Knight Banner can pick up the Honour Banner if at least one model from the Banner is within 1" of the marker when the Banner is activated in the Movement phase or Combat phase – this counts as that Banner’s activation for that phase.
Scoring Victory Points: At the end of the battle, the player with this objective scores 25 VPs if the Honour Banner is being carried by the Titan who started the battle carrying it, 15 VPs if the Honour Banner is being carried by any other friendly Titan or 5 VPs if the Honour Banner is not being carried by any friendly Titan but no enemy units are within 8" of the objective marker.
If using a Household battlegroup, the Lance in which the Knight Banner originally carrying the Honour Banner is in is used in determining the number of VPs earned. At the end of the battle, if any Banner from the original Lance is carrying the Honour Banner, the player with this objective scores 25 VPs. Otherwise, they score 15 VPs if the Honour Banner is being carried by any other friendly Knight Banner or 5 VPs if the Honour Banner is not being carried by any friendly Knight Banner but no enemy units are within 8" of the objective marker.
Asset Protection
“Upon the battlefield we stand as gods. And like all gods, we must protect those lesser than us.”
Princeps Nirendar, Stalwart Guardian, Legio Defensor
If this objective is chosen, the player with this objective places three Asset Protection objective markers; each one must be at least 10" from that player’s battlefield edge, at least 5" from any other battlefield edge and at least 10" from another previously placed Asset Protection objective marker.
At the end of the battle, each player calculates the total Scale of their units within 4" of each objective marker to determine which player controls each objective. Units which have not been destroyed but are Structurally Compromised, or in the case of a Household Support unit have lost more than half of their models, count as half their Scale (rounding down) when calculating the total Scale. A player controls an objective if the total Scale of their units within 4" of an objective marker is greater than the total Scale of their opponent’s units within 4" of the objective.
Scoring Victory Points: At the end of the battle, the player with this objective scores 5 VPs if they control one objective marker, 15 VPs if they control two objective markers or 25 VPs if they control all three objective markers.
Defend and Extract
“Do not let such pitiful foes lay their hands upon this knowledge. Their minds are far too weak for it.”
Princeps Jan, Ferrum Potentia, Legio Mortis
If this objective is chosen, the player with this objective places three Defend and Extract objective markers; each one must be at least 12" from that player’s battlefield edge, at least 5" from any other battlefield edge and at least 10" from another previously placed Defend and Extract objective marker.
At the end of each round, calculate the total Scale of units within 4" of each objective marker to determine which player controls each objective.
Whichever player controls an objective marker can move that marker up to 6" in any direction. The marker cannot move through enemy units, cannot end its movement overlapping the base of another unit and cannot move through Impassable terrain. In addition, a marker must end its move at least 12" from either player’s battlefield edge and at least 5" from any other battlefield edge.
Scoring Victory Points: At the end of the battle, the player with this objective scores 5 VPs if they control one objective marker, 10 VPs if they control two objective markers, 20 VPs if they control three objective markers or 25 VPs if they control all three objective markers and all are within 12" of the player’s battlefield edge.
Secondary Objectives
Stand Tall
“Victory is not just completing your task but standing before your foe and laughing in defiance.”
Princeps Vitus, Death’s Conclave, Legio Mortis
If this objective is chosen, at the end of the battle the player with this objective scores Victory points based on the total number of points from their battlegroup remaining on the battlefield. Determine the total points value of friendly units remaining on the battlefield. Units which have not been destroyed but are Structurally Compromised, or in the case of Household Support units, have lost more than half of their models, count as half their points (rounding down to the nearest whole number) when calculating the total points.
Scoring Victory Points: The number of Victory points scored is dependent on the total points remaining relative to the starting points total of the battlegroup as shown in the table below:
| Percent of battlegroup remaining | Victory Points |
|---|---|
| <33% | 0 |
| 33–50% | 5 |
| 50–66% | 10 |
| >66% | 15 |
Deny Them
“Princeps, the Mons Exaltatio is taking heavy damage.”
“Get me a view of their assailants. None shall fall today.”
Princeps Asmenal, Hammer of Terra, Legio Solaria
If this objective is chosen, after both players have finished deploying the player with this objective must choose two units from their battlegroup on the battlefield: one must be a Princeps Seniores and the other must have a Scale of 5 or more that is not a Princeps Seniores.
Scoring Victory Points: The player with this objective scores 10 VPs if the chosen Princeps Seniores has not been destroyed by the end of the battle. In addition, they score 5 VPs if the second chosen unit has not been destroyed by the end of the battle.
Glory and Honour
“Priority Target Located. Moderatus, charge weapons. Flanking units engage. Fire!”
Princeps Artemisia, Claws Unsheathed for Edification, Legio Resonantis
If this objective is chosen, after both players have finished deploying, the player with this objective must choose three of their opponent’s units and designate one as a Primary target and the other two as Secondary targets. The Primary target must be the unit with the largest Scale in the enemy battlegroup – if two or more units have the same Scale, the player with this objective can choose which the Primary target is. The Secondary targets can be any units of Scale 5 or more, chosen by the player with this objective.
If your opponent is using a Household battlegroup, the Primary and Secondary targets are chosen differently. The Primary target is the entire Lance belonging to the Seneschal or High King, one Secondary target is the Seneschal’s or High King’s Banner and the remaining Secondary target is a chosen Knight Banner (this cannot be part of any Banner already chosen as a target nor from a Lance already chosen as a target).
If, for whatever reason, the listed targets are not available, discard this objective and randomly determine another.
Scoring Victory Points: At the end of the battle, the player with this objective scores 7 VPs if the Primary target has been destroyed and 4 VPs for each Secondary target that has been destroyed. If a chosen target was not on the battlefield at the start of the battle (e.g., due to a Stratagem or special rule) and has not arrived on the battlefield by the end of the battle, they count as destroyed for the purpose of scoring this objective.
If playing at an event where an objective cannot be discarded, then if only one Secondary target can be chosen, that target is worth 8 VPs. If only a Primary target can be chosen, that target is worth 15 VPs instead.
Engage and Destroy
“Wipe them from existence!”
Princeps Ganundrel, Mors Foedus, Legio Interfector
If this objective is chosen, at the end of the battle the player with this objective scores Victory points based on how much of the enemy’s battlegroup they have destroyed. Determine the total points value of destroyed enemy units, rounded to the nearest whole number. Units which have not been destroyed but are Structurally Compromised, or in the case of Household Support units have lost more than half of their models, count as half their points (rounding down) when calculating the total points destroyed.
Scoring Victory Points: The number of Victory points scored are dependent on the total points destroyed relative to the starting points total of the battlegroup as shown in the table below. When calculating percentages, round to the nearest whole number:
| Percent of enemy battlegroup destroyed | Victory Points |
|---|---|
| <40% | 0 |
| 40–60% | 5 |
| 61–80% | 10 |
| >80% | 15 |
Priority Assignment
“Fools. Their petty minds cannot comprehend the true extent of our goals.”
Princeps Zine, Breaker of Angels, Legio Kulisaetai
If this objective is chosen, after both players have finished deploying, the player with this objective must secretly choose two of their units; one must be designated as Shield and the other Spear. In addition, one of the chosen units must be designated as Alpha and the other as Beta.
Scoring Victory Points: At the end of the battle, the number of VPs scored is dependent on the status of units designated as Shield and Spear, and which is designated as Alpha and Beta.
The unit designated as Shield scores points if it has not been destroyed and is still on the battlefield at the end of the battle. The unit designated as Spear scores points if it has destroyed at least one enemy unit of equal or higher Scale than itself; if the enemy battlegroup does not have such a unit, then the Spear unit must have destroyed two or more enemy units of a lower Scale than itself instead. The Spear does not have to be on the battlefield at the start of the battle and, so long as it completed its objective before being so, can have been destroyed; if a unit is destroyed due to the Spear taking Catastrophic damage, and the subsequent effect destroys an enemy unit, these do not count towards the objective.
If enough units cannot be chosen (e.g., due to the enemy battlegroup not having enough units of lower Scale than the Spear unit) discard this objective and randomly determine another.
Scoring Victory Points: The unit designated as Alpha scores 9 VPs if it completed its objective as described above. The unit designated as Beta scores 6 VPs if it completed its objective as described above.
A Matter of Honour
“Death is fleeting, shame everlasting.”
Princeps Nannariliz, Pride Beyond Years, Legio Defensor
If this objective is chosen, after both players have finished deploying, the player with this objective must secretly choose two of their units, designating one as Alpha and the other as Beta. Once chosen, they must secretly pair the chosen units with enemy units of equal or higher Scale; note down which unit is paired with which enemy unit. If a unit controlled by the player cannot be paired in such a way (e.g., due to being of a larger Scale than all enemy units) then it must be paired with two enemy units of lower Scale. A unit cannot be paired if it has already been chosen as part of this objective.
If four units cannot be chosen (e.g., due to the enemy battlegroup having three units all of lower Scale than all units in this player’s battlegroup), discard this objective and randomly determine another.
Scoring Victory Points: The unit designated as Alpha scores 9 VPs if it destroyed the unit(s) it was paired with. The unit designated as Beta scores 6 VPs if it destroyed the unit(s) it was paired with. In both instances, a weapon attack from the chosen unit must have destroyed the target; this can be because of a direct weapon attack or the target being destroyed due to the result of Catastrophic Damage caused to another unit by the Alpha/Beta unit.
Household Battlegroup Objectives
Primary Objectives
Break Through
“Find the foe’s weakness and run them through.”
High Scion Lacerollet, House Mordred
If this objective is chosen, after both players have finished deploying, the player with this objective must secretly choose one of their Knight Lances – this is the Knight Lance that must break through the enemy line. Make a note of which Knight Lance is attempting to Break Through. In the End phase of any round, a Knight Banner from that Lance within 1" of their opponent’s battlefield edge can breach the enemy line – remove that unit from the battlefield. That unit does not count as destroyed but plays no further part in the battle.
Scoring Victory Points: At the end of the battle, if two or more Banners from the chosen Lance have breached the enemy line, the player with this objective scores 20 VPs. If only one Banner from the chosen Lance has breached the enemy line, they score 10 VPs. In addition, if the Seneschal’s, High King’s, or a High Scion’s Banner is the one that has breached the enemy line then the player with this objective scores an additional 5 VPs.
Secondary Objectives
Legacy of the Household
“All we can hope is that we are remembered as heroes who faced certain death with fire and fury.”
High Scion Nrinul Pollrae, House Vornherr
If this objective is chosen, after both players have finished deploying, the player with this objective must secretly choose three Knight Banners from their battlegroup; at least one of these Banners must be a Banner containing a Seneschal, High King or High Scion.
Scoring Victory Points: At the end of the battle, the player with this objective scores 5 VPs for each chosen Knight Banner that has not been destroyed – Knight Banners that have left the battlefield due to another objective (e.g., Break Through) do not count as being destroyed for the purpose of scoring this objective. If a chosen target was not on the battlefield at the start of the battle (due to a Stratagem or special rule), and has not arrived on the battlefield by the end of battle, they count as destroyed for the purpose of scoring this objective.
Honour Duel
“I care not what happens to me, only that they lie dead before the day is done.”
Seneschal Gallaumn Vyronii, House Vyronii
If this objective is chosen, the player must destroy high-value targets within the enemy battlegroup.
Scoring Victory Points: At the end of the battle, the player with this objective scores 9 VPs if their opponent’s battlegroup leader has been destroyed and 6 VPs if the total points value of all enemy units destroyed is greater than 50% of the enemy battlegroup’s total points. Units which have not been destroyed but are Structurally Compromised, or in the case of Household Support units have lost more than half of their models, count as half their points value (rounding down) when calculating the total points value.
