TITANICA INFERNUS

“No knowledge should be forbidden, no path left unexplored. To claim otherwise is to allow ignorance to fester, an act of true betrayal.”

As the Horus Heresy progressed, the pacts the Warmaster had entered with the powers residing in the Warp began to alter the Traitor forces. Thecorruption of the Traitor Titan Legions was aided by the Dark Mechanicum, Tech-Priests who turned against the Emperor, with many promised unrestricted access to technology he had forbidden. It was during the Shadow Crusade that Corrupted Titans were first reported, with many accounts speaking of the nigh-unnatural manner in which some Traitor

Titans conducted themselves, their very presence sickening to those around them. Theimpetus behind these changes were the malign creatures encased within the Titan’s heart, for profane rituals had hollowed out their machine spirit, replacing it with a malevolent entity pulled from the Warp to transform a Titan into a living vessel of metal and fury.

Corrupted Titans

Corrupted Titans are Titans afflicted by changes and mutations brought about by the mercurial power of the Warp. A Legio battlegroup can include Corrupted Titans if it has the Traitor Titan Legion Allegiance. A Household battlegroup can include Corrupted Titans as Reinforcements if it has the Questoris Traitoris Allegiance. Battlegroups of other Allegiances, or without an Allegiance, can not include Corrupted Titans.

USING CORRUPTED TITANS Any Titan, except any Traitor Titans of Legend, within a Traitor Titan Legion or a Questoris Traitoris battlegroup can be designated as a Corrupted Titan at an additional cost, determined by the Titan’s Base Mutation (see page 164). The following rules apply to all Corrupted Titans:

  • All Corrupted Titans must purchase a Base Mutation at the appropriate cost, chosen from the list of Base Mutations on page 164.
  • All Corrupted Titans can purchase a number of Additional Mutations at the appropriate cost, chosen from the list of Additional Mutations on page 165.Themaximum number of Additional Mutations a Corrupted Titan can purchase is determined by the Titan’s Scale, as shown on page 165.
  • A Corrupted Titan subtracts 1 from the result of any Command check it makes. If a Corrupted Titan has purchased one or more Additional Mutations, it instead subtracts 2 from the result of any Command check it makes.
  • Theabove listed penalties to Command checks suffered by Corrupted Titans cannot be ignored due to Legio Traits (for example, the Legio Kulisaetai’s Callous Trait) or Princeps Seniores Personal Traits. However, these penalties can be ignored as a result of Stratagems, Titan Wargear or other special rules.
  • If the machine spirit of a Corrupted Titan is awakened, roll a D6 and look up the result on the Awakened Entity table instead of rolling on the Awakened Machine Spirit table. Unless otherwise stated, a special rule that allows you to choose a result on the Awakened Machine Spirit table also allows you to choose the result on the Awakened Entity table.
  • A Corrupted Titan commanded by a Princeps Seniores rolls a D6 on the Corrupted Titan Personal Trait table (see page 164) instead of rolling a D6 on the Personal Trait table (see the Adeptus Titanicus rulebook). If both players agree then they can each pick a Personal Trait instead of rolling a D6. A Corrupted Titan that has been declared as part of a Titan Legio may roll on, or pick from, its specific Personal Trait table.

Awakened Entity Table

D6 RESULT 1 Contemptuous: Thewarp entity roars at its foe, deeming them unfit to walk upon the same ground as itself. Other than ending the current Action, there is no effect. 2 Fearful: Thewarp entity fears being cast back to the Aether, pushing its new vessel to its limits to avoid its destruction. TheCorrupted Titan immediately moves D3" straight backwards, adding 1 to the roll for each point of Critical Damage the Titan has suffered, stopping before it collides with anything. If the Corrupted Titan moves more than its boosted Speed characteristic, it immediately suffers D3 S8 hits to its Legs – these Hits are taken in the Titan’s Front arc and ignore void shields. If the Titan is unable to move for any reason, for example it is Immobilised, treat this result as Contemptuous instead. 3 Bullish: Thewarp entity charges forwards, uncaring of those that stand in its way. TheCorrupted Titan immediately moves a number of inches equal to its base Speed characteristic straight forward, stopping if it collides with anything. After the move has ended, and after resolving the effects of any collisions, the Corrupted Titan turns up to 45° towards the nearest enemy unit, stopping before it collides with anything or if the enemy enters its Front arc. If the Titan is unable to move for any reason, for example it is Immobilised, treat this result as Contemptuous instead. 4 Blood Hungry: Thewarp entity charges forward, determined to bring death to all who defy it. TheCorrupted Titan immediately moves a number of inches equal to its base Speed characteristic straight forward towards the closest unit within its Front arc, stopping before it collides with anything. If there are no units (friend or foe) within its Front arc, it turns 45° towards the nearest enemy unit instead of moving, stopping before it collides with anything or if the enemy enters its Front arc. Then,if there is a unit (friend or foe) within 1" and within its Front arc, it makes a Smash Attack against that unit, with a Dice value of D3+1. 5 Destructive: Thewarp entity desires death and it will not be denied. Choose one of the Titan’s weapons at random. If that weapon has been disabled, the weapon is repaired as if the Repair Weapon action was used. Otherwise, the Titan attacks with the chosen weapon, targeting the nearest visible unit (friend or foe) that it can fire at, using a Ballistic Skill and Weapon Skill of 4+. If there are no units within its firing arc, treat this as a result of Blood Hungry instead. 6 Wrathful: Thewarp entity powers its weapons, ready to inflict devastation upon the enemy. Thecontrolling player chooses one of the Titan’s weapons that has not been disabled and attacks with it, using a Ballistic Skill and Weapon Skill of 4+, following the standard Combat Sequence (see page 33 of the Adeptus Titanicus rulebook). If all of the Titan’s weapons have been disabled, treat this result as a result of Destructive instead.

Corrupted Titan Personal Trait

D6 RESULT 1 Tormentor: Thewarp entity delights in inflicting pain upon its foe, savouring their suffering as it picks them apart. When making a Targeted attack against a Titan, the Princeps’ Titan adds 1 to the result of all Hit rolls it makes against a location that has not suffered Critical Damage. Thisis in addition to any negative modifiers. 2 Exemplar of Fear: Harrowing cries echo from the warp entity’s Titan, its terrible spirit clouding the minds of all around it. Once per round, when an enemy Titan within 12" of the Princeps’ Titan successfully makes a Command check to issue an Order, they can be made to re-roll it. 3 Strong of Essence: Thewarp entity refuses to be cast back to the aether, reserving a portion of its strength to ensure it can seize a new host if required. If the Princeps’ Titan is destroyed, before rolling on the Catastrophic Damage table, the player may choose a friendly non-Corrupted Titan within 8" of the Princeps’ Titan. Thechosen Titan must be of the same class as the Princeps’. Thechosen Titan is overtaken by the warp entity’s essence and follows all rules for being a Princeps Seniores. In addition, roll a D6. On a 4+, it retains the Strong of Essence Personal Trait, otherwise it has no Personal Trait. Thenew Titan gains the same Base Mutation as the destroyed Titan but does not gain any Additional Mutations. Only a Princeps Seniores chosen during Battlegroup selection counts for the purpose of determining Victory points and other scenario effects. 4 Beast of Aeons: Thewarp entity has existed since the dawn of time and it believes only it knows the true path to victory. ThePrinceps’ Titan can be issued an Order without the need to make a Command check. If the Princeps’ Titan is issued with an order in this manner, other Titans in the Princeps’ maniple can only be issued the same Order for the remainder of that phase. 5 Distorted Form: Thewarp entity has an ideal form and spends much of its time between battles shaping its new vessel in that image. At the start of each round’s Movement phase, the Princeps Titan may distort its form. When it does so, the Titan may increase its base speed characteristic by 1" or increase its base manoeuvre characteristic by 1. Thiseffect lasts until the end of the phase. 6 Shackled: Thewarp entity is bound by powerful rituals that give its summoner a measure of control over it. When the Princeps’ Titan is required to roll on the Awakened Entity table, they may roll two dice and pick which result applies. Thesame result can be rolled twice.

MUTATIONS Mutations represent the changes wrought upon a Titan both by the mercurial touch of the Warp and the warp denizen housed within the Titan’s heart. Themutations below represent those commonly seen during the first few years of the Horus Heresy, many of which were hidden below the surface and invisible at first glance. As the conflict progressed, more drastic mutations became commonplace, with many a Traitor Titan warped into a profane machine only vaguely reminiscent of its original silhouette.

BASE MUTATIONS When a Titan is designated as a Corrupted Titan, it must purchase a Base Mutation, chosen from the list below. A Corrupted Titan can only ever have one Base Mutation:

Preternatural Grace: A Titan may be upgraded with this Base Mutation for +20 points. Once per round, a Titan with this mutation can declare Power to Locomotors! or Power to Stabilisers! without pushing its reactor.

Overwhelming Rage: A Titan may be upgraded with this Base Mutation for +15 points. A Titan with this mutation adds 1 to the Dice value of any weapons with the Melee trait (including Smash Attacks) that it is armed with. In addition, a Titan with this mutation may be issued a Charge order without the need to make a Command check.

Warp Conduit: A Titan may be upgraded with this Base Mutation for +20 points. Once per game, during the Combat phase, a Titan with this mutation may conjure an Aetheric Tempest. If they do so, choose a unit within 12" of the Titan – the chosen unit can be a different unit to one chosen as a target of the Titan’s weapon but must be within the Titan’s Front arc and within its line of sight. Thatunit suffers a single S10 hit against a location of your choice, ignoring Void and Ion Shields.

Unholy Vigour: A Titan may be upgraded with this Base Mutation for +25 points. A Titan with this mutation counts as having suffered one less point of Critical Damage on each location for the purposes of determining Critical Damage Effects (but not for the purpose of determining when it suffers Catastrophic Damage). In addition, it repairs Critical Damage on a 4+ instead of a 5+.

Corrupting Presence: A Titan may be upgraded with this Base Mutation for +20 points. Whenever a unit within 6" of one or more Titans with this mutation has to make void shield saves, it must make D3 additional saves. Corrupted Titans are not affected by this mutation

Frozen Soul: A Titan may be upgraded with this Base Mutation for +15 points. During the Damage Control phase, a Titan with this upgrade may roll an additional two Repair dice. Thesedice can only be used on the Vent Plasma Repair Action.

Aetheric Conduit: A Titan may be upgraded with this Base Mutation for +10 points. Subtract 1 from the result of all Command checks made by units within 6" of one or more Titans with this mutation. Corrupted Titans are not affected by this mutation.

ADDITIONAL MUTATIONS A Corrupted Titan may purchase Additional Mutations, chosen from the list below, at the appropriate cost. Themaximum number of Additional Mutations a Corrupted Titan can purchase is determined by its Scale, as shown in the table below:

UNIT SCALE MAXIMUM NUMBER OF ADDITIONAL MUTATIONS 5 or less 1 6-8 2 9-10 3 11+ 4

A Corrupted Titan’s Base Mutation does not count as one of their maximum allowed Additional Mutations. Unless stated otherwise, a Corrupted Titan cannot take the same mutation more than once.

Writhing Carapace: Any Corrupted Titan may be upgraded with the Writhing Carapace mutation for +15 points. Once per turn, at the start of the Strategy phase, a Titan with this mutation can replace their Carapace weapon for a different Carapace weapon their Titan class has access to of equal or lesser points value than their starting weapon. Thiscounts as that Titan’s activation for that Phase. Writhing Carapace is not an Order and can still be used even if the Strategy phase ends early, for example due to the Vox Blackout Stratagem. Thismutation has no effect while the Carapace weapon is disabled.

Daemonic Bile: Any Corrupted Titan may be upgraded with the Daemonic Bile mutation for +15 points. Once per round, during the Combat phase, a Titan with this mutation can spew Daemonic Bile. Daemonic Bile counts as an additional weapon and follows the rules for attacking as normal (see page 33 of the Adeptus Titanicus rulebook). Daemonic Bile has a Short Range of T,Long Range of -, Dice value of D3, S5 and the Firestorm and Fusion traits. Thismutation cannot be used if the Titan has suffered Critical Damage to its head. Daemonic Bile is unaffected by Titan Legion rules (such as the Legio Infernus’ Masters of Flame trait), Maniple rules (such as the Ignus Light Maniple) and cannot be upgraded with Wargear (such as the Legio Infernus’ Clinging Phosphex).

Daemonic Ichor: Any Corrupted Titan may be upgraded with the Daemonic Ichor mutation for +10 points. When a Titan with this mutation suffers Catastrophic Damage, add 2 to its Scale when resolving a Magazine Detonation or Catastrophic Meltdown.

Chitinous Carapace: Any Corrupted Titan may be upgraded with the Chitinous Carapace mutation for +20 points. When a Titan with this mutation is hit in the Body or Carapace weapon by an attack, subtract 2 from the Armour roll. A Titan with this mutation cannot declare Power to Locomotors!

Empyrean Shroud: A Corrupted Titan with the Corrupting Presence or Warp Conduit Base Mutation may be upgraded with the Empyrean Shroud mutation for +20 points. Subtract 1 from the result of any Hit roll for attacks made against a Titan with this mutation. If a unit attacking a Titan with this mutation is within a number of inches equal to the Scale of the target Titan (i.e., for a Warlord it would be 10", a Reaver 8" etc.), the Empyrean Shroud ability has no effect.

Preternatural Regeneration: Any Corrupted Titan may be upgraded with the Preternatural Regeneration mutation for +50 points. During the Damage Control phase, a Titan with this mutation rolls an additional 2 Repair dice when making a Repair roll.

Organic Protrusions: Any Corrupted Titan may be upgraded with the Organic Protrusions mutation for +15 points. A Titan with this mutation changes the Dice value of their Smash Attacks to 3. In addition, all Smash Attacks made by this Titan have a short range of 2" instead of 1".

Pestilence Cloud: A Corrupted Titan with the Unholy Vigour Base Mutation may be upgraded with the Pestilence Cloud mutation for +15 points. Subtract 1 from the result of all Repair rolls made for any units within 7" of one or more Titans with this mutation. Units with the Unholy Vigour Base Mutation and Legio Mordaxis Titans are unaffected by this mutation.

If a Legio Mordaxis Titan takes this mutation, the above effects do not apply. Instead, the range of its Techno-Toxin effects increases to 6" instead of 4". A Legio Mordaxis Titan does not need the Unholy Vigour Base Mutation to take Pestilence Cloud, though it does need a Base Mutation to do so.

Immaterial Shield: A Corrupted Titan with the Preternatural Grace Base Mutation may be upgraded with the Immaterial Shield mutation for +25 points. Subtract 1 from all Hit rolls for attacks made against a Titan with this mutation while the Titan has active void shields. In addition, a Titan with this mutation gains a 5+ Shield save against attacks that normally bypass void shields, so long as the Titan has active void shields when attacked. If a unit targeting a Titan with this mutation is within 2" of this Titan, the Immaterial Shield mutation has no effect.

Aura of Fury: A Corrupted Titan with the Overwhelming Rage Base Mutation may be upgraded with the Aura of Fury mutation for +15 points. During the Strategy phase, if any unit within 12" of one or more Titans with this mutation is issued with an Order other than a Charge order it must make a Command check – this is done before the effects of the Order are resolved.

If the check is failed, and the unit is a Titan, increase the Titan’s reactor level by 1, or by 2 if the check was failed by 3 or more. If the check is failed and the unit is a Knight Banner, it immediately becomes Shaken. Units with the Overwhelming Rage Base Mutation are not affected by this mutation.

Gelid Aura: A Corrupted Titan with the Frozen Soul Base Mutation may be upgraded with the Gelid Aura mutation for +15 points. A Titan with this mutation, and all Titans within 6" of one or more Titans with this mutation, can Vent Plasma on a 3+ instead of a 4+. However, a Titan within 6" of one or more Titans with this mutation repairs Critical Damage to its Legs on a 6+. A Titan with the Frozen Soul Base Mutation is not affected by this condition and repairs Critical Damage to its Legs as normal.

Malicious Cacophony: A Corrupted Titan with the Aetheric Conduit or Preternatural Grace Base Mutation may be upgraded with the Malicious Cacophony mutation for +20 points. Subtract 1 from the result of any Command check made by a unit within 12" of a Titan with this mutation. If the Command check is made as part of issuing orders, subtract 2 from the result of the Command check instead. Thiseffect is cumulative with the penalty suffered as part of the Aetheric Conduit Base Mutation. Corrupted Titans are not affected by this mutation.
