Narrative Missions

The Age of Darkness is replete with tales of betrayal and desperation, heroism and savagery. Many of the innumerable conflicts fought during the Horus Heresy are doomed to be forgotten, nameless wars fought on distant worlds. Yet the march of god-engines is not a thing of silence and where the Titan Legions walked, all quaked beneath their tread. The Titan Legions were the hammer that broke worlds, an unrelenting force wielded by Loyalist and Traitor alike to shatter any who would oppose them. In their wake was left rubble and ash, for temperance was not a weapon the Titan Legions wielded. From the basalt plains of Isstvan V, where revelations of treachery were fresh and the Legio Atarus walked against Legio Mortis, to before the walls of Terra itself, the Titan Legions proved decisive, scattering lesser forces before them. The tales presented here represent some of the grandest conflicts in which the Titan Legions fought, be it because of the brutality of the conflict or the sheer number of god-engines fielded and the destruction wrought by the gathering of such might.

The following pages present several sets of narrative scenarios that allow players to refight the events described earlier in this book, recreating the conflicts and changing history if they can. Each scenario is linked to a specific narrative and which scenarios link to which tale is shown on the following page. Each mission recreates a specific action or moment during the Horus Heresy, offering guidance on how players should construct their battlegroups and special rules to reflect the specific conditions of the battle. There is no need to fight all the battles from a specific narrative, nor fight them in chronological order, and players should feel free to pick and choose those they wish to play.

Battlegroup Points

Many of the Narrative missions presented here have been designed where one side or the other has the upper hand, and in some the best either the Traitors or Loyalists can hope for is to make their enemies pay in blood before they are forced to retreat, the victory conditions reflecting the differing goals of either side. The points level for battlegroups has been left as a guideline, allowing players to field the models they have in their collections. When altering the points level, players should retain the points ratio between Loyalists and Traitors to keep the intended balance of the mission. For example, if the Traitor force was 3,000 points and the Loyalist force was 2,000 points, then whatever the new points total was, the Traitor force would have 33% more points than the Loyalists.

!!! note "Designer's Note"

**Loyalists and Traitors**

Narrative missions focus on specific battles or engagements and often include the major Titan Legions who were present at the time. These Titan Legions were not the only forces present and smaller contingents of both Loyalist and Traitor Titan Legions could easily have been drawn into the escalating conflict.

When playing any of these missions players should feel free to substitute their own Legio for those that follow, choosing one side to represent the Traitors and the other the Loyalists. In the case of missions pitting Knights against Titans, players can alter them so that both sides are fielding Knights or both sides are fielding Titans should they desire.
